A HOME AWAY FROM HOME

"Athithi devo bhavha" (Guest is God) is our one of central tenets of Indian culture since times immemorial.
Facilities offering consideration to wanderers have been a feature of the earliest civilizations. Derived from French hotel, it is referred to a French version of a building seeing frequent visitor, and providing care, rather than a place offering accommodation. In order to be tagged as a hotel, an establishment must have a minimum of six bedrooms, at least three of which must have en suite private bathroom facilities. Whereas hotel chains assure uniform standards all over, non-chain hotels may not agree on the same standards.
To symphonize hotel classification on a single grading (which is uniform across national boundaries) would be a repugnant and unattainable task. On star basis;
  • A 1-Star hotel provides a limited access to amenities and services, but follows to a high standard of cleanliness.
  • A 2-Star hotel caters good accommodation and better equipped bedrooms; each equipped with a telephone and attached private loo.
  • A 3-Star hotel has bigger rooms and adds high-class decorations and furnishings and color TV. It also offers one or more bars or lounges.
  • A 4-Star hotel is much more cozy and larger, and provides excellent cuisine room service, and other amenities.
Apart from being distinguished n star basis, now-a-days hotels are being differentiated on the basis of their uniqueness and specialty.

  • Boutique hotels are typically hotels with a unique environment or mellow setting. Some hotels have gained popularity through hosting traditional activities, significant events or persons.
  • Resort hotels are designed specifically as a destination in itself to create a captive trade, example at casinos and resorts. Of course hotels have always been built in popular destinations; the defining characteristic of a resort hotel is that it subsists purely to serve another attraction, the two having the same owners.
  • Cave hotels are notable for being built into natural cave formation, few with rooms built underground.
  • Cliff hotels build on top of the cliff or located on the coast but high above sea level, these hotels offer unobstructed panoramic views and a great sense of privacy without being isolated.
  • Garden Hotels are famous for their gardens way before they became hotels.
  • Referral hotels are a hotel chain that offers branding to independently operated hotels. The chain itself is founded or owned by the member hotels.
  • Transit hotels are short stay hotels typically used at international airports for passengers to stay while waiting to change airplanes.
  • Tree house hotels are built with living trees as structural elements.

With the size and features being an important part, location of hotel too plays a vital role. That’s because a well-located hotel will significantly cut down on the amount of time you waste in traffic or trying to navigate an unfamiliar place. For business travelers, centrally-located hotels will increase productivity by allowing them more time to work and meet with colleagues. A hotel being located nearby to major attractions means less hassle and more of fun. Travelers to big cities should not miss out on hotel rooms with stunning skyline views particularly if it’s your first time in a large city.
